CERAMICS STUDIO - BEGINNERS
I
You will need:
- Clay : Recycled stoneware is recommended
- Bucket for recycling clay : small plastic container (eg. Cool Whip container)
- Tools (sponge, pin tool, wire cutter, rib, trimming tools)
available from the Campus Store : An Elephant Ear sponge is highly recommended.
- Wear old clothes
We will cover:
- How to prepare clay
- How to center and throw mugs, bowls, and plates on the
wheel
- How to trim, finish and decorate pieces (including pulling and
adding handles)
- Various hand building techniques (coil, pinch, slab building,
and extrusion techniques)
- How to glaze pieces
- We will also discuss the different types of clay bodies,
glazes and approaches to working with clay
