Information about your folder

Your organization's folder name was given to you in your confirmation email message. If you are FTPing your documents, go to "www.rso.cornell.edu." (see below for information on how to FTP your documents)

Your web page address will be http://www.rso.cornell.edu/<foldername> where <foldername> is replaced with the name of your folder as specified in your confirmation email message. For example, if your folder's name is <ccc>, then your address would be http://www.rso.cornell.edu/ccc. Please be sure your main (home page) file is called <index.html>.

A few other notes about the server:

* We are currently working on offering MySQL to RSO webmasters. Details will be released soon.

* The server is running RedHat Enterprise Linux 4 and Apache Webserver v. 1.3. The server has php capabilities which can be used for forms and page development.

* The server is CasE SenSiTIvE, so pages and file names must match. For example, Home.JPG would not be recognized as the same file as home.jpg. You may wish to consider using all lowercase letters in your file and folder names for consistency purposes.

* Your website is limited to 175 MB of space.

* After you log in via FTP, you will see a folder called "www" in your directory. All of your files must go into this folder.

Your UserID and Password

Your UserID was sent to you in your confirmation email message. Your username will always be the same as your folder name. This is a change from previous years. The password is the same as you entered on the form. Please note these passwords are not stored anywhere. Therefore, if you forget or misplace your password, it will need to be reset. Contact Joe Scaffido at jss44@cornell.edu or 255-4169. Please do not send passwords through email.

Each organization will have only one (1) contact person who serves as webmaster for their organization. This person will receive all updates regarding the RSO server. If your webmaster changes during the year, the new information must be sent to Joe Scaffido at jss44@cornell.edu by the club's president.

If you would like to change your password, call Joe Scaffido at 255-4169, or stop up to 523 Willard Straight Hall.

If you prefer to use ssh (telnet) to access your files, please send a request to Joe Scaffido at jss44@cornell.edu.

Guidelines for using the Server

Please review the Student Organization Web Server Guidelines which can be found at http://www.sao.cornell.edu/SO/webspace_pre.php, as well as the Cornell University policy on the Responsible use of Electronic Communications, located at http://www.policy.cornell.edu/vol5_1.cfm. When using the RSO server, you are agreeing to follow the guidelines and policies as outlined on these pages.

You will also want to be sure you are familiar with "Cornell University's Guidelines for Publishing Web" Pages located at http://www.cit.cornell.edu/computer/www/guidelines/

Contact Information

For Administrative and/or Technical Information, or if you would like to change access membership, please contact the Student Activities Office, 521/523 Willard Straight Hall, or email <activities@cornell.edu>. How to FTP Your Documents

After you've received your confirmation email, you will immediately be able to begin FTPing your documents to your folder.

It's pretty simple to FTP your documents to the RSO server. First off, you need to use an FTP client. On a Mac, this will probably be Fetch and on a PC, it will probably be Ws_FTP.

On a Mac using Fetch, your log-on dialogue box (the box that you use tell the FTP client where to go) should look like this:

Host: www.rso.cornell.edu User ID: "Your UserName" (i.e. ccc)
Password: "Your Password" (i.e. ju$tk1dd1ng) Directory: (leave this part blank)

When you are logged on, you will automatically be in your folder, and can begin FTPing your web documents to the RSO server.

On a PC using Ws_FTP, the box should look like this

Profile Name: CIT Public FTP Server Host Name/Address: www.rso.cornell.edu
Host Type: Automatic Detect User ID: "Your UserName" (i.e. ccc)
Password "Your Password" (i.e. ju$tk1dd1ng)

and "Anonymous" should not be selected. When you log on, you will automatically be in your folder, and can begin FTPing your web documents to the RSO server.
